While wintry weather will be happening just to our north, we are looking at some very Spring-like weather today. Overall, the weather will be more like Spring over the next few days than Winter. Perhaps Chesapeake Chuck had a hiccup in his recent forecast! Let’s talk about it.
Today we have a warm front lifting up from the south. It was starting to move into Hampton Roads this morning.
Temps had already warmed to near 50 degrees from Virginia Beach southward by 8am. Winds were out of the southeast and light. However, the winds will pick up out of the south this morning. They will increase to 10-15mph with gusts up to 25mph. The colder air to our north will create a wintry mess from the Ohio River Valley up into the Northeast states. They will have a mixture of snow and ice. Luckily we will be in a thin sliver of warmth that will exist along the southeast coast.
Colder air isn’t too far away. High temps will only be in the 20s and 30s from Washington D.C. northward. Through the day we’ll be in the warm zone with the front passing just to our north. Meanwhile the cold front and the area of low pressure to our west will move closer to our area. The first half of the day will actually be pretty nice. Temps will steadily warm up. We’ll see a mix of sun and clouds through noon. Except for a stray shower, the bulk of the rain will stay to our west.
During the afternoon the rain will steadily push east. Rain chances will increase.
It might take a long time for it to reach the coast. Even Virginia Beach. I think the best chance for rain for everybody will be during the evening. That’s when a line of showers will form ahead of the cold front. It will swipe through with a line of showers and some isolated thunderstorms.
We could pick up about a quarter of an inch of rain before it ends. High temps will be in the mid-upper 60s. By tonight we’ll start clearing out and dropping temps. This will happen after 9-10pm. Low temps will be in the 30s overnight. Then tomorrow we are looking at some much colder/drier weather. We’ll have mostly sunny skies, but high temps will only be in the upper 30s to low 40s. The wind will be strong out of the north. We’ll warm up a little by Friday. High temps will be in the low 50s with partly cloudy skies. We’ll warm up even more over the weekend. High temps will be in the low 60s on Saturday. However, the models have gotten much wetter for Saturday. Now it looks like we’ll have scattered showers. They won’t last all day. Then the flow out of the south will increase even more on Sunday. This will pump in the heat and the moisture. Talk about Spring-like! High temps will aim for the low 70s. Rain is expected for most of the day. We will cool down on Monday to the 50s, but it doesn’t look like it will get too cold early next week. There will be some more rain showers Monday into Tuesday. It might be a real soaker for a few days. Stay tuned for updates.
