Record Challenging Cold, then FINALLY a warm up!

RECORD CHALLENGING TEMPS TONIGHT AND SUNDAY

It was a frigid morning with actual lows in the single digits (and even negative digits) for most areas away from the immediate coastline.

LOWS THIS MORNING

Wind chill values made it feel even colder.  It’s so cold because of an Arctic ridge of High Pressure that is dominating our weather pattern. Temps affiliated with this high will be well below the average by as much as 20° or more for today and tomorrow.

TODAY’S WEATHER PATTERN

Highs today will hover around the low-mid 20s, but it will FEEL like it’s only around 10°-15° through the afternoon.

FUTURE TRAK- WIND CHILLS THIS AFTERNOON

Tonight thru Sunday morning, plan on more bitterly cold temps with lows dropping down to the single digits and the low teens near the coast (see graphic below).

FUTURE TRAK- LOWS TONIGHT

However, even with light winds, wind chill values will hover around 0° or colder (negative digits) for Sunday morning. So, continue with your cold weather precautions.

FUTURE TRAK- WIND CHILLS  SUNDAY MORNING

Sunday’s cold weather will challenge standing records:

RECORD CHALLENGING TEMPS TONIGHT AND SUNDAY

If the overnight low for Norfolk hits or goes below 13°, then the standing record will be tied or broken that was set in 1884.  The record “Coldest High Temperature” for Sunday (in Norfolk) is 26°.  The forecast calls for 28°, but if highs don’t make it past 26°…then a new minimum high temperature record could be set.  Stay tuned…

Regardless, the big story is that these sub-freezing temperatures are delaying the melting process for the ice & snow on the ground.  So, when is it going to FINALLY get above 32°?  Glad you asked.

MONDAY’S PATTERN – SOUTH WIND BRINGS WARMER AIR

By Monday, the winds will turn out of the south as the Arctic highs moves away… and the warming trend will begin!

WARMING TREND STARTS MONDAY

Temperatures will FINALLY climb above the freezing mark…reaching the upper 40s!  We’re expecting 50s Tuesday with more 40s for Wednesday. Then, 60s are on deck to end the week.  So, thankfully, the snow and ice will melt away this upcoming week!    Also, there will be a chance for showers Monday night into Tuesday morning with a cold front…but I’m talking about RAIN SHOWERS 🙂
