NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Officers are investigating a deadly shooting in the 800 block of Lassiter Drive, one of two shootings in the city Tuesday.
The male victim, Devin Bowles, 23, of Newport News, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers received a call for the shooting just before 3 p.m.
Newport News police did take two people from a home on Lassiter Drive, which elicited cheers from crowds at the scene, but police haven’t released details about whether the two are suspects.
Residents told 10 On Your Side’s Kara Dixon that they heard the gunshots just before school buses pulled up to the neighborhood.
Police say this is the third homicide so far this year in the city.
A 17-year-old male was shot and killed on Marshall Avenue just over a week ago. A shooting Jan. 11 at the Tarrytown Apartments left a man dead and sent a teen to the hospital.
