Portsmouth man critical but stable after Hampton shooting

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A Portsmouth man was critically injured in a shooting Thursday night in Hampton.

Hampton police say officers were called to the intersection of of N. Hope Street and E. Mercury Boulevard just before 10 p.m. Officers found a a 20-year-old Portsmouth man who had been shot once.

Medics took the man to a hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition. Police say he claimed that he was sitting in a vehicle when he was shot by two people.

Police say an exact motive for the shooting is unclear. An investigation is ongoing.
