HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – A tragic accident in Hampton on Thursday afternoon.
10 On Your Side learned that 75-year-old Barry Hale was in a front end loader clearing a parking lot. Something happened, and he died from a work-related industrial accident. It could be considered weather related because he was clearing snow from that lot.
Police will not confirm what happened, referring questions to the State Department of Labor.
Police did say that upon officers’ arrival, they located Hale, who was suffering from the possible work-related injury.
We asked Police Spokesperson Sgt. Matt Bond whether Hale was struck by the front end loader he was operating. “At this time it appears there was contact between the front end loader and the victim, and that is what caused the life threatening injuries,” Bond said.
Members of the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Hampton Police Division has conducted a preliminary investigation and at this time the incident does not appear criminal in nature.
As a result, the State Department of Labor will be conducting the follow-up investigation and any further questions or inquiries should be directed to them.
