NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Two people were taken to hospital Thursday after a moving van struck a car at an intersection in Newport News.

The crash happened just before 10 a.m. at Warwick Boulevard and Center Avenue. Police say the moving van, which was driven by a 25-year-old man, collided with a Toyota Camry driven by a 32-year-old Newport News woman, sending the moving van into a utility pole.

An investigation revealed the Camry was stopped at a red light before the accident. When the light turned green, police say the Camry pulled into the intersection and was hit.

All of the intersection’s traffic signals were pulled down after the moving van hit the utility pole, according to police.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say charges in the case are pending.
