NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The man appointed Norfolk sheriff earlier this year will continue to serve in that role.
Sheriff Joe Baron won in a landslide on Tuesday, defeating Neil Bradley, Reggie Spruill and Sean Jones.
Baron declared victory shortly after the polls closed.
“It is exciting to have the race finished and have the confidence of the community to do this role as sheriff as an elected official,” Baron said.
Baron had been serving as sheriff since Bob McCabe stepped down earlier this year. Baron says his goal is to bring respect back to the office.
“It’s all about integrity,” Baron added. “It is all about honor. It is about respect for all others and it is about doing your duty without prejudice.”
Baron says he wants his deputies to know he is there for them
“l listen to them and I make myself available to them,” he said. “I’m approachable and I think those traits have helped garner trust with them.”
The sheriff says he will relax Tuesday night, but the real work begins first thing tomorrow
“I hope the citizens will say four years from now that ‘Joe Barron did a good job,'” Baron added.
