Fugitive arrested in Newport News after 3-hour barricade

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A 30-year-old fugitive man was arrested Thursday night after barricading himself in a Newport News home for three hours.

Newport News police said they went to the 400 block of Savage Drive and tried to serve Khalil James six outstanding warrants for abduction, assault and battery and brandishing a firearm.

James refused to leave the home and a tactical situation was called in just before 9 p.m. He was in the home  with a female, but police say it was not a hostage situation.

The warrants were taken out on Oct. 20, according to police.

Members of the Newport News Tactical Operations Unit were on the scene for three hours before they were able to take James into custody around 11 p.m.
