Man, pets killed in trailer fire in Va. Beach

UPDATE (Oct. 25): Virginia Beach fire officials say a 59-year-old man injured in a trailer fire Tuesday night has died.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Firefighters rescued a 59-year-old unconscious man from a burning home Tuesday night and medics rushed him to the hospital.

The fire at the Colonial Mobile Home Park, on Baker Road near Northampton Boulevard, happened around 8:20 p.m., according to Battalion Chief Norman Williams.

Battalion Chief Williams tells 10 On Your Side a dog and pet bird died as a result of the fire.

Firefighters arrived to find the mobile home well-involved in flames and immediately began attacking the interior of the home, according to Williams.

Officials say the man was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and was in critical condition at last check.

The fire was called under control about 10 minutes after crews got to the scene.

The injured man and his roommate, who was not at home at the time of the fire, are unable to return to home.

Investigators say the fire was accidental and originated in one of the bedrooms in the trailer.
