Police identify victim killed in Norfolk homicide

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Police have identified the person that was killed in a double shooting on Friday night.

Dispatch received the call at 10:35 p.m. for the shooting in the 1500 block of Halstead Avenue.

Upon arrival, police discovered two adult males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds inside a residence. Medics pronounced 22-year-old Javaughn Moore dead on scene.

The second victim was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Residents living near the shooting say they heard multiple gunshots coming from the home.

“All of the sudden we hear pow…pow, pow, pow, and I’m like ‘Oh my God honey! What was that?’ I started heading into the house,” said Chica Strose, who says she was sitting outside when the shooting happened.

Strose says after she heard the gunshots,it got eerily quiet outside so she did not think the shooting happened so close until police showed up.

She says officer approached the house and her neighbor answered the door saying he had been shot and another man was dead inside.

Strose says it’s upsetting knowing this happened so close.

“It’s sad. It hurts my heart and then I think about all the other people who live around here who could’ve been hurt because we have a lot of kids down here,”she said.
