1 killed in crash on Lynnhaven Parkway in Va. Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — One person was killed in a multi-vehicle crash Thursday morning on Lynnhaven Parkway, according to police.

Virginia Beach police say the crash happened at Lynnhaven Parkway and Gravenhurst Drive. Dispatch was alerted to the crash at 6:55 a.m.

Police spokesperson Linda Kuehn confirms one person has died. Images from the scene appeared to show that more than one vehicle was involved in the crash.

WAVY’s Jason Marks reports a 20-year-old man was on his way to work, and was t-boned by a car as he was making a turn onto Lynnhaven south from Gravenhurst.

The car that hit him was going north on Lynnhaven at a high rate of speed, according to police. The driver was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries and has been charged with reckless driving.

Police say the same car hit a second vehicle that was sitting in the left turn lane, preparing to turn onto Gravenhurst. No additional injuries were reported.

Lynnhaven has been closed in both directions between Indian River Road and Pleasant Valley. Police say the closure is expected to last several hours.
