VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – In an exclusive with WAVY News, Sports Director Bruce Rader sat down with the owner and builder of the proposed Virginia Beach arena.
10 On Your Side was able to access never before seen renderings of the inside and outside of the building.
Rader reports that United States Management CEO Andrea Kilmer and Steve Ballard, of S.B. Ballard Construction, are confident that construction of the arena will begin at the end of the year.
“We see the light at the end of the tunnel, and we’re going to get there and we’re pretty excited about what’s going to happen, how quickly we are going to start construction,” Kilmer said.
So what are some of the things you will see when you walk into the arena? A big concourse, state of the art technology, more wide spaces and even restaurants where you can make purchases with your phone.
Ballard will be building the arena and worldwide promoters AEG will book the events. Some examples: “I don’t know how excited people get, but I would get excited about Lady Gaga, about Katie Perry, Taylor Swift, Garth Brooks,” Kilmer said. “Potentially the PBR, an NCAA tournament, ice skating championships.”
Family events may be held at the future arena as well, according to Kilmer.
“Obviously the religious events, Joel Osteen would be a perfect example. You could look at Disney On Ice, Blue Man Group.”
Kilmer says she is not at all relying on getting a major league sports franchise. However, she does admit that there have been discussions.
