Detectives arrest man for armed robbery in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Detectives have arrested a man in connection to an armed robbery that happened early Sunday morning at a Portsmouth-area 7-Eleven, police say.

Dispatch received the emergency call at 3:22 a.m. for a robbery at a convenient store in the 700 block of Mount Vernon Avenue.

Police officials say the suspect approached the store clerk, displayed a large knife and demanded money from the register. The clerk complied with the suspect’s demands.

The suspect then left the scene in a silver four-door sedan, according to Portsmouth Police Department spokesperson Misty Holley. No one was hurt during the incident.

Police tweeted Tuesday that 45-year-old Charles E. Hall was arrested in connection to the robbery.

He is charged with armed robbery, and is currently being held by the Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office.
