NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Fire crews responded to a fire Friday morning at a house that appears to have been vacant.

Dispatchers say crews were called to the scene on Leslie Avenue just before 7:15 a.m.

Bat. Chief Joe Milligan says the fire appeared to have started in the kitchen area.

Milligan says a neighbor was taking out his trash and saw smoke coming out of the home’s attic and called 911. Crews had the fire under control at 7:26 a.m.

The utilities appeared to be on at the house — both gas and electricity — but Milligan says no one was there. No injuries were reported.

Fire marshals are working to determine what caused the fire.
