Man suffers serious injuries in Portsmouth shooting

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Portsmouth Police are investigating a shooting that occurred on Bickford Lane.

According to Portsmouth Detective Misty Holley a call came in at 12:21 p.m. for a shooting in the 6500 block of Bickford Lane. The male victim drove to the 3500 block of Towne Pointe Road where police located him with a gunshot wound to the torso.

The man was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive. 10 On Your Side spoke with employees at the Towne Pointe Shopping Center where the victim was located.

An employee told us that the victim came inside his business with multiple gunshot wounds and they treated him until emergency responders arrived. Customers at the shopping center say they were shocked a shooting took place in the area.

“There’s a lot of military families out here. You don’t hear too much about shootings in the area especially in the shopping center by the post office. That’s a federal building,” says Melissa Spates.

Police have not released any information on a suspect or any details about what lead up to the shooting. Spates say the incident is not going to stop her from coming to the area but she will remain cautious.

“I’m just going to be looking over my shoulder now. It’s going to be uncomfortable for me. I know it can happen anywhere but when it hits so close to home, it’s concerning,” she says.
