YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Denbigh Boulevard was closed briefly Thursday morning as crews worked to clean up an oil spill from a crash.

The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office noted the closure in a post on Twitter Thursday morning.

Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya says a box truck crashed into a ditch on Denbigh Boulevard.

The Denbigh Boulevard was closed in both directions at the U.S. Route 17 intersection. The roadways was later reopened.

Anaya says the road was closed to allow firefighters to clean up the spill and so a wrecker could remove the truck.

There is not a lot of room in the area to move equipment in and out, another factor that lead to the closure, according to Anaya.

The crash was reported to state police dispatchers at 6:40 a.m.
