HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — Thousands of people lost power Wednesday night after thunderstorms moved through parts of Hampton Roads.

At one point, over 6,000 people were affected by the outage. Dominion Energy’s outage map said most of the outages were due to storms.

Some WAVY viewers shared photos of storm damage in Chesapeake.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, it appears to be a wet microburst, not a tornado, that caused the damage in Chesapeake Wednesday evening.
