Man charged after moped driver seriously injured in Newport News crash

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A moped driver was seriously injured after being hit by a car Thursday night in Newport News.

Police say the accident happened at the Bland Boulevard overpass around 10:30 p.m.

The victim, a 20-year-old Newport News man, was taken to a hospital in Norfolk via Nightingale.

The driver of the car, 25-year-old Emilio Riveria Soto, was arrested and has been charged with first offense DWI and assault: maiming another while DWI.

Soto could be facing additional charges, based on the moped

Police are still investigating this incident.
