Hampton fire officials retract report of woman hit by lightning

Correction: The Hampton Fire Department has retracted a report of a woman being struck by lightning.

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A report of a woman being struck by lightning Tuesday was false, according to the Hampton Fire Department.

Fire officials originally said a woman had been struck by lightning in the 40 block of Riley Drive. The fire department later said on Twitter that crews were working two possible lightning strike cases and the information was put into the system incorrectly.

Hampton was included in a special weather statement issued by the National Weather Service, warning of the possibility of strong storms. Some WAVY viewers from the area shared videos of hail as storms passed through Tuesday.

Remember, if you see lightning or hear thunder, you’re at risk and should take shelter immediately.
