YORKTOWN, Va. (WAVY) — Authorities say two men are in custody in connection to a shooting in Yorktown that left a Williamsburg man dead.

The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to Walnut Drive shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday for a shooting.

Authorities say the victim, 40-year-old Carlos Lamont Lassiter, and someone he knew got into a physical altercation when Lassiter was shot in the chest. Lassiter was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Authorities got word around 4 a.m. Friday that he had passed away.

The sheriff’s office took out a warrant against 32-year-old Ryan Atwan Lyon on Friday for second-degree murder. He had been on the run since the shooting, but turned himself in to the sheriff’s office Friday afternoon, authorities say.

Laphonso Cordero Lyon, 29, was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to aggravated malicious wounding and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

10 On Your Side talked to Lassiter’s girlfriend, who said Ryan Lyon confronted Lassiter Thursday about a domestic event. Lyon is the father of her children, and she says he was upset with Lassiter’s role in the children’s life.

“He didn’t deserve any of it,” Lakisha Marsh said. “Mr. Lassiter did more for my kids than Mr. Lyon — which is their biological father — ever did… He just loved my kids and called them his kids. Mr. Lyon didn’t like that.”

Marsh said Ryan Lyon shot Lassiter in the chest before his brother Laphonso drove him away.

Loved ones held a vigil for Lassiter Friday night.
