HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A woman was injured in a shooting early Monday morning in downtown Hampton.

Police dispatchers tell WAVY.com officers were called to Armistead Avenue and W. Queen Street — off Settlers Landing Road — around 4:30 a.m. for a reported shooting.

Officers were seen in the area around a Taxi business.

10 On Your Side’s Rico Bush reports that paramedics took one person to the hospital. Police say the woman is expected to recover.

An employee of the company says he found the victim near Patrick Hardware on W. Queen Street — just blocks from the taxi company. He said that he picked up a woman who was waving her arms near the hardware store. She reportedly said that she had been shot in the side.

Employees at the hardware store and neighbors nearby said they did not know anything about the shooting.

A spokesperson for Yellow Cab said the company is proud of its employee for “doing the right thing” by helping the victim get to a safe place.

Police have not said if a suspect or suspects have been identified in this shooting.
