CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – One person is dead and one person is seriously hurt following an accident on I-664 North, Sunday morning.
According to Virginia State Police, a 2013 Nissan Altima was traveling in the southbound lanes when the driver crossed over the median into the northbound lanes striking a 2011 Ford F-150 and a 1995 Lexus GS300 head on as they traveled in the northbound lanes.
The driver of the Nissan was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extracted. The driver was then taken to Norfolk General with serious life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Lexus died upon the head on impact. The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Darryl D. Matthews of Suffolk.
There were no injuries to the occupants in the Ford F-150.
All I-664 northbound lanes, and one southbound lane were temporarily closed.
The crash is still under investigation.
