Fire destroys vacant Hampton home

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A vacant Hampton home went up in flames Thursday night.

At 11:10 p.m., fire crews responded to a reported house fire in the 700 block of E. Mercury Boulevard. Firefighters got to the scene to find a fully involved two-story home with heavy smoke and flames showing. The fire was marked under control within about an hour.

There was heavy fire, smoke and water damage throughout the home.

A passerby reported the fire.

One firefighter suffered minor heat exhaustion and was taken to Sentara CarePlex Hospital to be treated.

Fire officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
