Hampton officer injured responding to search for potential fraud suspect

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A police officer was injured Thursday afternoon responding to a search for a potential fraud suspect in downtown Hampton.

Hampton police initially tweeted Thursday afternoon that they were looking for a suspect who had assaulted an officer.

Police issued a correction on Twitter that they were searching for a fraud suspect, and that an officer was injured in the response. The officer was not assaulted by the suspect.

The incident reportedly happened in the 500 block of Settlers Landing.

10 On Your Side’s Deanna LeBlanc — who was in the area for a Hampton police news conference — captured images of a police presence in downtown Hampton.

The status of the officer injured Thursday was initially unclear.
