Retired Newport News police K-9 dies in handler’s arms

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A retired Newport News police K-9 died in her handler’s arms Monday morning.

K-9 Jordan, a Belgian Malinois, was 13 and a half. She served the Newport News Police Department as a weapons and explosives detection canine from June 2004 until July 2015, when she retired.

Newport News police posted on Facebook, asking the public to keep “Master Police Officer Ruhlen and his family in your thoughts and prayers as they mourn the loss of a beloved family member.”
