Crews battle fire on Dinwiddie St. in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Portsmouth Fire crews battled a house fire on Dinwiddie Street  in Olde Town Portsmouth.

According to dispatchers, firefighters responded to the 3400 block of Dinwiddie Street around 3:39 a.m.

Fire Officials told 10 On Your Side’s Matt Gregory at the scene that they have brought the fire under control and everyone was able to make it out of the structure unharmed.

Next door, Graham Meehan didn’t know what happened until he heard fire sirens.

“I went down and looked outside my kitchen window, the flames were coming out there side and almost hit my porch,” Meehan said.

The fire destroyed the roof and officials say there are fears that the structure has become unstable.

During the fire, officials say flamesspread to a home next door, but firefighters were able to put that small fire out quickly.

A fire marshal told 10 On Your Side, they started investigating the cause around 7:00 am. 10 On Your Side will continue to work with the Fire Department to find out the cause of the fire.
