JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — An elderly woman was taken to the hospital after a house fire in James City County Thursday.
Fire crews were on a routine assignment around 1:23 p.m. in the Ironbound Square subdivision when they spotted heavy smoke nearby. Firefighters responded and found heavy flames and smoke coming from the back of a home on Alesa Drive. Crews managed to get the fire under control in about 40 minutes.
The resident of the home was taken to the hospital, where she is in stable condition.
Unfortunately, a dog didn’t make it out and died in the home.
The fire caused significant damage to the home, which is not inhabitable.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
