NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man was killed in a shooting in Norfolk Tuesday afternoon. Police say a man involved in the shooting has been taken into custody.
Officers were called to the 100 block of La Valette Avenue, just off Granby Street, at 3:53 p.m. for a possible gunshot victim. When police arrived on scene, they found a man with an apparent gunshot wound.
Sue Gates lives across the street from where the shooting happened.
“I was cleaning and I heard about six to 10 gunshots. I was like, ‘Woah, what is that?'” Gates said. “[I went outside] there was a car peeling out.”
Gates said she saw the shooter standing over a body. She said the man yelled for people to call police.
Police say the victim was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The victim was identified as 25-year-old Travis James Burke, of Norfolk.
Police say the suspect was identified immediately, and was taken into custody without incident. The man taken into custody has not been identified, and police have not said what charge or charges he may be facing.
Witnesses watched across the street Tuesday night as two cars pulled in to a parking lot in Lafayette Park. Police say that’s when someone shot Burke.
Witnesses told 10 On Your Side they heard four of five gunshots.They say the suspect waited for police to arrive.
