Suffolk man shot during fighting incident in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Police say two men got into a fight early Friday morning, leading to a shooting that injured a Suffolk man.

Officers say it all started when the men started arguing on Jefferson Avenue and 40th Street. The fight escalated, and police say they got into another fight a few blocks over on 45th Street.

That’s where the shooting happened just before 2 a.m.

Police say a 52-year-old Suffolk man was shot in the incident. Paramedics took him to the hospital for life-threatening wounds, but say he’s in stable condition.

It is unknown if the two men know each other.
