VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A new roadway connecting Virginia Beach and Chesapeake opens Saturday morning.
The connection on Lynnhaven Parkway between Indian River Road and Centerville Turnpike is set to open under modified traffic conditions at 9 a.m.
Lane closures will continue to take place as needed to finish final construction items but at least one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction.
Improvements to the new roadway includes widening Lynnhaven Parkway from two lanes to four lanes, as well as construction of a bridge over Brigadoon Lake #2, an 8-foot-wide shared-use path, a sidewalk, sound walls and landscaping.
New traffic signals were installed at the intersections of Monument Drive, Heald Way, Beaufain Boulevard and Albright Drive. The project is expected to be complete by mid-January 2017.
The construction of the Lynnhaven Parkway Widening Project began in March 2014.
