ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A former local school board chairman was sentenced Thursday after being accused of stealing more than $200,000 from an elderly woman over the course of seven years.
Kent Hildebrand entered an Alford plea in this case. An Alford plea doesn’t mean Hildebrand pleaded guilty, but means he admits that there is enough evidence for the prosecutor to convict him.
Back in July 2015, Isle of Wight County sheriff’s deputies arrested Hildebrand on 17 felony charges, including grand larceny, credit card fraud and identity theft.
He was sentenced to six months in jail and five years probation and he will pay $70,000 in restitution to the 80-year-old victim.
