New office building to be built in Newport News development

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A new 95,000 square foot office building will be built in the Brooks Crossing development in Newport News.

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, will use most of the building. The company plans to move nearly 600 engineering and design jobs into the building.

The Newport News Economic Development Authority will lease the remaining 15,000 square feet, and use the space for several new ventures, including STEM education and entrepreneurial initiatives.

Construction is set to begin in the summer of 2017, with occupancy expected in late 2018.

Brooks Crossing is a mixed-use development built in 2015. It’s located in the 3000 block of Jefferson Avenue and its anchors include Jim’s Local Market and the Newport News South Police Precinct, both which opened in 2016.
