WILLIAMSBURG/NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — New direct flights to New York City/Newark (EWR) and Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) were announced Wednesday at Newport/Williamsburg International Airport (PHF).

WAVY’s Laura Caso reports that the flights will begin March 13 and will run three days a week.

The flights are being serviced through Elite Airways. Officials say they are looking to add more flights in Florida in the future.

The flights to Newark and Long Island will begin with rates starting at $99 each way (including taxes).

President of Elite Airways, John Pearsall, says this is needed.

“This is one of the first destinations that this area needs, and we have some ideas moving forward to go out West and up to the North West,” said Pearsall. “We believe that there is a need for this community.”

Pearsall went onto say that this was a deal that took about one year to complete.

“We think that will be a total home-run for this area because we need more direct flights to New York,” said Pearsall.

“We welcome Elite Airways to the airport and know their level of service will be greatly supported by our community,” said Ken Spirito, Executive Director of the airport. “We look at a lot of data and customers  consistently told us the number one destination they want is New York.”
