Two hurt after milk truck overturns in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A tractor-trailer carrying milk overturned in Newport News Friday evening.

Dispatchers received a call about the accident at 4:31 p.m.

Sgt. Randal Bailey with Newport News police says the truck was exiting from Interstate 664 and was turning onto Chestnut Avenue when the driver lost control. The truck overturned, hitting three vehicles as it came to a stop.

Two people were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the milk truck, 57-year-old Charles Hood, of Harrisonburg, was charged with reckless driving and driving without a commercial driver’s license.

Chestnut Avenue between 39th and 41st street and the exit ramp from I-664 south to Chestnut Avenue were blocked for some time, but have since reopened.
