Grand jury to hear case against men charged in Va. Beach burglary, shooting

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Charges against two men charged in connection to an August armed burglary and shooting are moving forward.

The grand jury will be reviewing the case against Garry Hamlin and Deandre Evans Womack on December 19.

In August, police said Hamlin, Womack and Michael Scott went into a home on 22nd Street with the intention of burglarizing it. Inside, the suspects got into a fight with someone. One of the suspects then allegedly opened fire, killing Scott.

Another person inside the home was also shot during the altercation. That victim had non life-threatening injuries.

Hamlin is facing charges of robbery, use of firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and armed burglary. Womack is charged with robbery, burglary, two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony and attempt to commit a noncapital offense.

Womack’s bond was denied during a hearing on February 28. His trial is set to being on April 24.
