NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The driver of a car that was involved in an overnight crash Tuesday ran from the scene and is currently on the loose, police say.

Daniel Hudson, Norfolk police spokesman, says a crash that involved one car and an overturned box truck has been ruled a hit-and-run. He says the car involved hit the truck.

The driver ran from the scene, leaving behind the car, as well as people who were in the car during the crash. Hudson says the other people remained at scene.

No one was hurt in the accident.

The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday — just hours after 21-year-old Mike Watson was shot and killed on Azalea Garden Road near Princess Anne Road.

Hudson says detectives do not believe the crash is related to the homicide.

WAVY photographer Walter Hildebrand helped one person get out of the overturned truck. He reported seeing one person flee from the scene.

The driver has not been arrested.
