Hatteras Island residents asked to look out for water leaks

DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — Officials say there’s been a high demand lately on the Dare County Cape Hatteras Water System.

The water department believed the higher demand was from storm cleanup after Hurricane Matthew, but demands haven’t decreased at all since the storm.

Officials are asking residents to be on the lookout for standing water in normally dry areas, water bubbling up from the ground, or standing water around or leaking out of vacant properties. If you see any suspected leaks, call the Dare County Water Department at 252-475-5990.
