NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A mother who asked the public to speak up about her son’s murder talked to WAVY News Wednesday, following an arrest in the case.
Police charged 19-year-old Isaiah Phillips with the murder of 21-year-old Jordan Stith Monday. Officers said he also shot a woman in the leg, who survived. Lolita Frazier called the arrest “bittersweet.”
“At the end of the day, it doesn’t bring my son back…It just puts a face out there… Now I can’t get his face out of my head,” she said.
According to court documents, there was an argument outside a home on Ross Drive and Phillips got a shotgun from the trunk of a car and fired it. Witnesses identified Phillips in a photo spread as the man with the gun, the paperwork said.
“I want justice, of course, and I’m going to stand up and fight for Jordan until I can’t fight no more, but to know that someone else’s child just basically lost their own life…just from doing something like this is very heartbreaking to me,” Frazier said.
She said she’s grateful for the community and the police.
“We need people to know that it’s not about being a snitch. It’s about doing the right thing,” she said.
Phillips is due back in court next month. He declined to comment from jail.
