HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Police have arrested a suspect believed to be connected to two different shootings in Hampton.
At 3:39 a.m. on October 29, dispatchers received a call about a shooting in the first block of Derby Drive. When officers got on scene, they found a 21-year-old man with a single gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital with a non life-threatening injury and has since been released.
Police say two suspects, one of whom was identified as 20-year-old Paris Javon Cooper, went to the victim’s house, showed a gun and demanded the victim’s belongings. An altercation broke out inside the home and Cooper shot the victim, according to police. Both suspects ran from the scene before police arrived. Authorities are still working to find the second suspect involved.
Days later, on November 2, dispatchers got multiple calls at 4:48 p.m. about a shooting in the 1900 block of Cunningham Drive. Police arrived at the scene and found a man with multiple gunshot wounds outside the Murphy USA gas station.
Police say Cooper and the victim in this case knew each other, but the motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
Cooper has been arrested and is charged with one count of robbery, two counts of maiming, one count of abduction, and four counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony. He remains in custody at the Hampton City Jail.
