HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia State Police say three people were taken into custody after a police pursuit ended in a crash in Hampton Tuesday.

At about 9:50 p.m., a state trooper tried to pull over a 2013 Toyota Corolla on I-64 east, just west of LaSalle Avenue. The driver of the vehicle would not stop and a short chase began. The driver eventually crashed a short time later, at the intersection of Mercury Boulevard and LaSalle Avenue.

After the crash, three people, including the driver, ran from the vehicle. Police set up a perimeter and all three people were taken into custody.

Police say the vehicle had been reported stolen.

Witnesses tell 10 On Your Side they saw three men running as police and troopers descended on them from all different directions.

“It had to be 30 at least — state troopers, undercover, local police,” one woman said. “I’ve never seen that many cops.”

State police are still investigating.
