Man shot while deer hunting in Courtland

COURTLAND, Va. (WAVY) – The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries is investigating a hunting accident over the holiday weekend.

According to Lee Walker with Game and Inland Fisheries, two people were out deer hunting in Courtland on Friday when one of them fired at a deer and hit the other hunter instead.

The shooting victim went to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries that are considered not life-threatening.

There are currently no charges filed in this case.

Walker wants to remind hunters to identify your target and what’s beyond your target before pulling the trigger.
