Hampton Police K9 dies of cancer

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – The Hampton Police Division is mourning the passing of one of their own, Police K9 Diesel.

Diesel died Saturday, November 26 after a brief battle with cancer. He served as MPO Tom Hendrickson’s partner.

According to Hampton Police, Diesel ran more than 2800 miles of tracks during his eight years of service. He helped locate evidence, and 25 suspects, including three homicide suspects, one robbery suspect and five shooting suspects. He also helped find missing children and adults during his time with the Division.

A Police Memorial Service will be held on December 8, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Fort Monroe Theater at 42 Tidball Road. The ceremony is open to the public.
