RICHMOND, Va. (AP/WAVY) — Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. says he was offered the job of education secretary, but turned it down.

Falwell believes that President elect-Donald Trump’s selection of charter school advocate Betsy DeVos for the job is an “excellent choice.”

Falwell, who endorsed Trump, says he turned it down for personal reasons. Trump wanted a four to six year commitment, but Falwell says he couldn’t leave Liberty University for more than two years.

Additionally, Falwell doesn’t want to move his family, including his teenage daughter.
