NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Black Friday shoppers are calm and unrushed at one shopping mall in Virginia.
People at the relatively quiet MacArthur Center mall in downtown Norfolk said Friday morning that they came more for the experience than any particular deals.
Dana Sari of Norfolk says she has already finished all of her holiday shopping online, but she and her mother wanted to continue their decades-old tradition of spending the day together.
The 43-year-old neuropsychologist says she prefers buying gifts from online catalogues and boutique retailers rather than larger corporations, which she says value her less as a customer. Sari planned to shop for herself at some of the mall’s stores, such as The Limited, but not like she used to because of concerns about the economy.
