Possibly rabid raccoon involved in fight with dog at First Landing State Park

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Authorities say a possibly rabid raccoon got in a fight with a dog at the 62nd Street entrance of First Landing State Park.

The raccoon is now dead and has been sent off for rabies testing.

Rabies is deadly if left untreated. If anyone in your home, including your pet, has been exposed to stray or wild animals in the area in the past few weeks, you should contact your physician or the Health Department at 518-2700, between the hours of 8:15 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Don’t call 911 unless you have an emergency.
