Driver shot at red light in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton police say a person was shot Wednesday afternoon while stopped at a red light.

Police got a call at 12:51 p.m. to respond to the area of W. Pembroke Avenue and Aberdeen Road. Officers found a man inside a Mercedes SUV suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital to be treated for his injuries, which police say were not life-threatening.

A woman inside the vehicle was uninjured.

The investigation revealed that the victim was traveling southbound down Aberdeen Road and while stopped at the red light at W. Pembroke Avenue, a red sedan pulled up and someone inside began firing at the victim’s vehicle.

The victim drove off onto W. Pembroke Avenue, lost control and overturned the SUV.

Police are still trying to find the suspect wanted in connection with this incident. The motive is under investigation.
