Norfolk City Council to vote on salary for interim city manager

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk City Council is expected to vote on an ordinance Tuesday setting the salary for interim City Manager Douglas Smith.

Smith was appointed interim city manager in October. He’ll be taking over the position as Marcus Jones takes a new in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The ordinance says that Smith will be paid at the rate of $230,000 a year, along with benefits city employees receive, effective December 1. He will also have the choice of a monthly car allowance of $833.33 or the use of a city vehicle.

Smith recently served as deputy city manager in Virginia Beach.
