Vandals strike Norfolk city parking garages

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Vandals hit two parking garages in downtown Norfolk over the weekend.

Police say three cars were broken into at the Bank Street Garage and one more in the MacArthur Center garage.

The crimes happened between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. in a brightly lit garage with cameras.

The victims at Bank Street live in an apartment building that uses the city lot. It’s very unnerving for residents and those who use the city lot frequently.

“I’ve always felt really safe in Norfolk, in this area until now, so this has me really worried,” said Jose Portillo. “I’d hate to come back from class and find my windows broken.”

The same lot has had a rash of vandalism before. Vandals damaged 45 cars between last November and this January.

The city has installed lights and cameras and has security patrols. Monticello Station Apartment management asked the city to increase security again.
