YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Authorities in York County are looking for a man they say sexually assaulted a woman while she was sleeping.

The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office said Justin Harris, 28, is wanted on charges of burglary and forcible sodomy.

According to Lt. Dennis Ivey, Harris entered a home on Old Williamsburg Road on Nov. 9, where a woman was asleep.

“He did not break in. She thought she had secured the door, but the door was easy to gain access to because it didn’t secure properly that evening and she just basically woke up and she was being victimized by this person,” he said.

Ivey said the woman called deputies and identified Harris as the suspect. Harris and the woman know each other and Harris lives in the neighborhood, he said.

“We’re encouraging this person — obviously, we put his picture out there — just turn yourself in. It’s going to make it easier… We know people are going to recognize you,” Ivey said.

Magneto Dayo said he knows Harris, but has not seen him lately.

“To me personally, I didn’t think he was the type of person you know to do something like that,” Dayo said.

“We want to make sure that he doesn’t victimize somebody else and we want the victim to feel safe and know that he’s been taken off the street,” Ivey said.

Harris reportedly has ties to York County and Gloucester.
