Suspect charged in Southampton County homicide

Bobby Boone, Jr., 30, was arrested Monday, Nov. 21, 2016 for the homicide of Tanisha Freeman.

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A 30-year-old man from Franklin has been arrested and charged with murder in a homicide investigation.

An investigation was launched Monday after authorities say 25-year-old Tanisha Freeman was found dead from a neck wound. Authorities say it appeared as if she had been stabbed several times. She was pronounced dead the scene.

The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office says the homicide is being investigated on Oak Trail in Courtland. Deputies were called to the area around 7:10 a.m. Monday with reports that a female was injured and bleeding.

“I didn’t know what was going on,” neighbor, Jowana Myrick said. “But when I went to my car to get my daughter’s book bag, I seen her lying at the door.”

Freeman was more than just a neighbor, she was Myrick’s friend.

“Anything she could do for anybody, she would do it,” she explained. “She would go out of her way to do it.”

The sheriff’s office says an investigation lead them to Bobby Boone, who is the father of Freeman’s two children. A relative called police with concern over the children.

Boone was found by police in his Franklin home with a self-inflicted wound. Southampton sheriff’s deputies met Boone and Franklin police officers at the hospital. Boone was treated and then brought in for questioning. He was then arrested and charged with murder.

Boone is currently being held at the Southampton County Jail. He was arraigned Tuesday and has a preliminary hearing set for January 26.
